Or Is That What Money Is For?
This summer, my youngest son experienced his first beach trip. My wife's family has a tradition of going to the beach every year that started when her granddad was a child in the 1950s. Because it's such a strong family tradition, everyone plans ahead to have the work off, and they travel from all over the country to be here.
The granddad pays for the beach home. A colleague once asked him, "Why do you do that? That has to cost a lot of money."
Then he paused...
And continued, "Or is that what money is for?"
Without needing an answer, the colleague realized that life is more than being the richest person in the cemetery. Money is nothing more than a tool to help you accomplish what is important to you.
My wife's granddad is an absolute legend. He has lived intentionally according to his values, and that's how you live a life without regrets.
When life is good, and we're all together as a family, he'll say, "I wonder what the rich people are doing today."
